I spent a decade in a call center troubleshooting technical issues with customers. While this killed any interest in working directly with the public, I did keep my passion for technology. I was eventually hired as a Network Operations Center (NOC) technician, though I had to move my family across the country for this position.
While this job keeps me in technology, my daily tasks are very basic and provide no challenge. Some of my teammates who already have computer science degrees are programming some programs that will take automated actions based on the alarms we receive. While I am welcome to shadow these projects, I would prefer to contribute more meaningfully. The computer-related languages I currently know are HTML, along with a little CSS, SQL, Python, and Java. My primary application of HTML and SCC has been creating and editing documentation for my team. I use SQL to populate data into Power BI reports. With Python and Java, I’ve mostly used my knowledge of objects/classes and algorithms in feedback and brainstorming sessions. These projects will let me use the skills I am picking up during my pursuit of my bachelor's in computer science. As I gain these experiences, I can then leverage my degree (or at least impending degree) to get a higher IT position.
My non-IT hobbies are yarn craft-based crafts, thus the profile picture, and programming projects.
